BuyIT
undertakes the identification and promotion of best practice
under two linked, as illustrated below.

BuyIT e-Business Programme
A guideline: Succeeding in the Networked Economy: The CEO's
Framework for e-Business launched in 2002 by
Douglas Alexander MP, Minister of State for eCommerce and Competitveness,
with a foreword by Patricia Hewitt, Secretary of State for Trade
and Industry, e-Minister in Cabinet.
This plain-English guide provides a framework
for CEO's and their management teams to repsond effectively to e-Business.
The key issues to address are indentified under four headings:
- e-Strategy and Direction - tying the threats and opportunities
of e-Business to the business's aims and needs.
- Relationships and Communities - coping with the changes demanded
by e-Business in the trust-model between a company and it's stakeholders.
- Information and Communications - harnessing the communication
mechanisms to improve, enrich, change and deepen relationships
with key stakeholders.
- Process and Culture - managing the significant mindset changes
at the top of an organisation to accommodate and adapt.
The guide offers an agenda to help the CEO identify
those issues warranting greater investigation and simple tools to
investigate the opportunities for e-Business. The guide will be
available on the BuyIT website from 11 April 2003: www.buyitnet.org
and also, in a version written for SMEs, on the UK Online for Business
website, www.ukonline.gov.uk.

The BuyIT e-Procurement programme was set up in June 2000 with
the backing of the Government's e-Envoy.
The programme is aimed at top private and public sector organisations to help them share
experience and accelerate the take-up of e-procurement. The programme
includes facilitated dialogue events and research and guidelines
development activities, generating member consensus and publication
of high-level guidelines.
Experience
Sharing Group
An active meetings programme for senior executives from major early
adopter organisations across industry and the public sector to exchange
information and benchmark their e-procurement programmes. Members have
confirmed the value of this independent, cross-sector network which enables
them to gain practical market insights and early warning of pitfalls and
opportunities.
e-Procurement Guidelines
The objective is to publish a comprehensive suite of guidance material
for Board level managers addressing the key issues for companies
embarking on e-procurement - and their suppliers - to address. Patricia
Hewitt launched the first e-Procurement guideline: Building the
business case for e-procurement which has had over 10,000 copies
downloaded from the BuyIT website.
