Introduction
This guideline provides an overview of e-procurement, identifies
the key issues you need to understand, and includes detailed guidance
to help you build the business case.
Foreword
"To respond to the e-commerce challenge means seizing all the
opportunities: in selling, improving core business processes and
in purchasing. e-Procurement is, in theory, the easiest and least
risky of these - but too few companies are actually implementing
it. And it is vital, if we wish to maintain our leading position,
that we do something to improve companies' understanding and confidence.
I am therefore delighted to be able to announce the publication
of a new e-Procurement Guideline which will help purchasers and
suppliers to understand eProcurement. Purchasing organisations must
take advantage of the Internet to introduce efficiencies in the
way they buy from and collaborate with their suppliers. The Guideline
includes a framework to help them build the business case. It's
time to act now."
Patricia Hewitt MP, Minister of State for E-Commerce
and Small Business
"We set out to capture our members' early experience
of implementing e-procurement systems and to bring this to the attention
of UK organisations to help them adopt best practice. The value
of this guideline is that it reflects a consensus across the leading
e-procurement practitioners - purchasers and suppliers, vendors
and consultancies, who have been generous with their time and information.
I am grateful for the support of our members and I am delighted
that the e-Minister has given it her stamp of approval.
